Little girls love to dress up. It’s a worldwide phenomenon.
Here’s a bit jazzier dress pattern to make for a little girl, near or far away, known or unknown, but always known, loved and cared for by their Creator. Just like you!
A Bit Jazzier Dress for a Little Girl Somewhere on the Planet
- Hook Size: J for 24-month old K for a 2-3 year old
- Yarn Used: Lion Brand Pound of Love
- This dress can also be made as a tunic top. Just limit the number of pattern repeats.
Foundation Round: Leaving a 6-inch tail, ch 85.
Round 2: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *sc in next 20 ch, 3 sc in next ch,* Repeat across. Being careful not to twist, join w/ sl st to beg-sc to make a “round” with 4 corners.
Round 3: Ch 1, 3 sc in corner, sc in in next 21 st. *3 sc in corner st, sc in next 22 st*. Repeat ** around. Join.
Round 4: Ch 1, 3 sc in corner, sc in next 23 st. *3 sc in corner st, sc in next 24 st.* Repeat ** around. Join.
Now that the corners are clearly seen …
Rounds 5-7: Ch 1, 3 sc in each corner and sc in each stitch along the four straight sides. Join.
Check off when round is complete: 5 6 7
Round 8 (creating armholes): Ch 1, sc across straight edge to next corner. At corner, ch 7, skip that whole straight edge, then sc at next corner. Sc in each st across until reaching next corner. Ch 7, skip that whole straight edge, then sc at next corner. Do not join.
Place a stitch marker here.
Round 9: Sc in each ch and each sc around. Do not join.
Round 10: Sc around. Do not join.
Round 11-22: Repeat Round 10.
Check off when round is complete: 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22
Change color, if desired, with sl st into next st.
Round 23: Ch 1, sc in same st. Sc around, join.
Round 24: *Ch 3, skip next st, sc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around, end with ch 3, skip next st, sl st to join.
Round 25: Sl st in ch-3 sp, ch 3, 3 dc in same sp. *Sc in next ch-3 sp, 4 dc in next sp.* Repeat from * to * around, ending with sc in last sp. Sl st to beg-ch-3.
Round 26: *Ch 3, sc between 2nd and 3rd dc, ch 3, sc in sc.* Repeat from * to * around, ending with ch 3, join with sl st to beg-ch-3.
Round 27: Ch 1, sl st into ch-3 sp, *ch 3, sc in next sp.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st.
Round 28: Ch 3, 3 dc into same sp. *Sc into next sp, 4 dcs into next sp.* Repeat from * to * around. Sl st to join.
In Round 28, you may find it ends unevenly, with an extra loop or a missing loop. Just do the next repeat (either dcs or sc) to make it repeat uniformly. The give and pattern of the fabric hides any inconsistencies, at least to an imperfectionist like me.
Rounds 29-37: Repeat Rounds 26-28 three times.
For Tunic Top: Finish off, weave in ends.

Rounds 38-46: Repeat Rounds 26-28 three more times.
Finish off, weave in ends.
At the neckline, the 6” tail you left at the beginning of your foundation chain waits your command.
Use this tail to pull that little gap you see together, by slip stitching and weaving in the end.
REALITY CHECK: Peace doesn’t always come in the package we expect it to. Jesus is a gentle Shepherd who leads us beside still waters, as well as calls us to live as warriors in a spiritual battle. He wears many hats, has many roles, which makes me realize: He understands parenthood.
