Our First Shoebox Leftovers

Our first year putting together shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, we didn’t have any leftovers. We bought just enough gifts for two shoeboxes in one trip to one store and felt like frightened millionaires.

The next year, I bought -and made – a few gifts throughout the summer, so when it came time to putting a few boxes together, we had a few leftovers.

Not very many, but just enough to fill the bottom of our very first box of leftovers:

Our Very First Box of Extras[2]

It was a big moment in our lives! God who is more than enough provided more than enough!

More Than Enough Got Me Thinking

It got me thinking,

“If God doesn’t mind providing enough, and God doesn’t mind providing more than enough, maybe God would like to provide even more than I am thinking He would like to provide.”

And that’s when the year-round shoeboxing and creating for shoeboxes began!

It’s Your Turn

  • Do you put together shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child?
  • How did you get started?
  • Have you ever had leftovers?
  • Do you think God might like to use you and your family and friends to help fill even more boxes?
